Reason for doing this ride

My mum suffered from cancer and passed away peacefully in September 2001. She had spent all her short life caring for people. I wanted to something that I hope will help others.
At present in 2002, the stats are 1 in 3 people will contract cancer in one form or another in their lifetime. After losing my mother and talking to others at work, I decided to do bike ride which I hope the funds will help save someone else from this awful disease via Cancer Research UK.

I didn't do any excises or fittness programs prior to this, after doing research I did the London to Brighton which was tough but decided to expand the route after finding this site (this site is 93 in the list):

Land's End - John o'Groats An East of The Pennines Route

As of 2002, about 1,000 people do this route a year and a very high percentage do the ride the other way to what I decided. I added my mums home town and other locations which pushed the distance from about 800 to over 1,000 miles.

I will be cycling this 'Ride for Life' event solo, a support car will be local in case of emergency.
Cancer Research UK which leads the field in cancer research and hope one dat the stats are no longer serious...

I will be cycling for:

My Mum

Sheila

2001

Mum was always looking after people and always wanted to help anyone. Mum even worked at a local care home. I later found out that mum was helping people in hospital whilst going through treatment herself. It's dosen't seem fair that someone so helpful be taken from us so early, my only hope is they need more angels.

Bob

2001

Bob was the middle one of five children; he spent most of his early years in an orphanage looking after Brian. Although life seemed to deal Bob bad hands, he always faced up to his challenges and despite his well known stubborn streak, was known as a gentleman and referred to by his family and friends, as "the nice one".

Bob got his reward after meeting Marion, the happiest time of his life was cut short when Bob lost a rather short, but painful fight against Cancer....

Karen's treatment was going well but suddenly took a turn for the worst.

Will be so missed by many...

Jen

Jenworks in our busy Office Services Department and is a bubbly, hard working member of the team. Jen was shaken and worried after being diagnosed with cancer. Happily her doctor had noticed it in the early stages and after treatment and further preventative surgery Jen was clear and back to her old self after a week...
